At first glance, a fairly conventional film.

But as the film progresses, the characters are fleshed out more, it is really enjoyable. The film has a wonderful atmosphere. The story about two people who have a different goal and ideas and slowly come closer together is told in a very calm and beautiful way. Nice how the survival element is added to this and is also used well. That ensures that the scenes have more impact towards the end. Yet there is also enough room left for humor. And that is more than successful at several moments. The romance is also built up nicely.

Fine direction, beautiful photography, wonderful music and beautiful performances by Adèle Haenel and Kévin Azaïs. What a wonderful film.

A strange film actually. Especially the character of Madeleine is fascinating and mysterious. She seems to be doing well because she lives with her parents in a beautiful house with a swimming pool and a large garden. On the other hand, Arnaud is a bit lost after the death of his father and falls back on the business where his older brother is now mainly pulling the cart. He lives rather calculatedly in a safe but boring world. She wants to get out of a golden cage and lacks social skills. With a strange approach, they go to training camp for the army together. She probably to prove herself and to be able to live in a place outside that golden cage. He because of Madeleine because she colors outside the lines, is ambitious and he falls in love with her. With a strange approach, they go to the camp where they gradually seem to balance each other out.

The film is not a high-quality film at first sight, but it is captivating thanks to both main characters. Especially Adèle Haenel gives a lot of color to her character that constantly raises questions. Always good when a film raises questions and brings some mystery with it. It is a small, delightful film that shines in its simplicity.

Arnaud [Kévin Azaïs] is visiting his house with his boss Manu [Antoine Laurent] for a business meeting when he comes face to face with Madeleine [Adèle Haenel] who recently defeated him during a wrestling tournament on the beach. When it turns out that Arnaud and Madeleine are following the same military training, a friendship develops despite Madeleine's recalcitrant attitude that takes on a different dimension during a military exercise. Four Golden Palms (all for Cailley) and Césars for Laurent (best actress) and Azaïs (best male newcomer) underline the success of a film that has a remarkable final twist in store just when it threatens to descend into rom-com clichés. The entire cast knows how to handle the deadpan humor of Cailley and co-writer Claude Le Pape. Haenel steals the film, but Nicolas Wanczycki also scores high as the trainer who sticks to his point at all costs.
