Le Mangeur de Lune plot
Popov, the black Russian clown of a circus, has a song with an eagle. When they perform in Paris, the beast escapes and Popov has to catch him. He therefore misses the departure of the troop and has to follow them by train (to Venice). At the same time, a country bumpkin leaves the farm, who is tired of the life of a scarecrow when his mother marries a local corpse-bearer, which means that his chances of possibly owning them become hopeless. In the same train he meets the black circus artist and becomes fascinated by him and his bird of prey. He never leaves his side after that.
