Theater executives Russ Matthews and Al Tinker try to make a quick buck by helping alcoholic itinerant soothsayer Dr. Fothergill as a true prophet. Amazingly, Fothergill's predictions come true and soon his advice is sought by dubious types like the gangster boss Cronin. This not only threatens the future existence of Matthews and Tinker, but also puts a strain on the romance between Matthews and journalist Carol Wilson.
