Intermezzo plot

The singer Adrienne Madelon, shortly before she marries Pierre, runs off. Bad luck haunts her at the casino and when she finally runs out of money, she gives her vote as collateral to a mysterious Mr Trent. He can now control when and where Adrienne Madelon sings. As much as she rebels against that, she can't get rid of Trent. Reluctantly, she eventually has to admit that she has even fallen in love with him.
