Clint Howard makes this Ice Cream Man more than it is. A fairly simple, youthful horror film with a perfect villain. What a fantastic, scary face that guy has. The kind of face you, as a parent, wouldn't want to see driving through your neighborhood. Neatly behind the bars of his van, where he has a number of tubs full of ice cream. And limbs. And eyeballs. And some rats, cockroaches... something for everyone! It doesn't exactly whet your appetite. Furthermore, some typical youthful antics. Wanting to solve the mystery themselves, getting caught, no one wanting to listen... and in the end, the little snot-nosed kids are proven right after all. Fun, fun, fun!

With the best will in the world, this is not a good movie. Yet, I enjoyed Clint Howard as the wacky ice cream man, who, with his villainous face, throws out one icy one-liner after another. 'Ice Cream Man' (1995) doesn't even rely that much on the kills or the gore, but it is entertaining schlock from start to finish. It is such a bizarrely entertaining universe in which all the (badly acting) adults mostly do wrong things and don't listen to the kids. And unlike this film's more modern namesake: no AI was used. There are, however, substandard haunted house effects from the nineties.
