A charming ode to cosmic horror with a compelling drive for practical effects. It's clear in many ways that director Stewart Sparke still has a lot to learn, but he effectively exudes joy in How to Kill Monsters. The acting by Lyndsey Craine and the two agents is decent, and the effects are quite detailed, but the digital effects (of which there are plenty) are unfortunately less convincing. Moreover, in terms of graphic gore, the whole thing is too tame and the camerawork too detached to create a truly cinematic experience. But it's all very entertaining and ultimately creates a film that deserves a substantial budget in the world of cinema.
