Hond & Ik plot

When loner Paul inherits a dog from a deceased relative, he desperately wants to get rid of it as quickly as possible. The dog—which he conveniently calls "Dog"—turns his life upside down. But the hyperactive, cheerful Dog also forces him out of his comfort zone, and that's how he meets Laura. What begins as an unexpected spark soon clashes with the reality of Laura's family. Step by step, with Dog at his side, Paul learns what it means to truly connect.

An excellent film about a man whose life takes a turn when he inherits a dog from a deceased relative. A delightful watch, especially if you love dogs. The plot may be a bit predictable, but this is simply a good film that also manages to move. The chemistry between Egbert Jan Weeber and Jelka van Houten is excellent, and the new family dynamic during the second half is well-developed. A near 4.0 stars.

A cliché party that trips over itself on all four legs. Anyone who has ever had a pet, or had or experienced a broken family, can enjoy or be annoyed by this film according to their nature, but what lingers is that ultimately nothing original, nothing new, nothing unique comes out of this piece of Libelle romance. I like Jelka, but please, in a production that tries to establish something, not this piece of drivel that even drags EJW down—nothing negative about his talent, but too many roles that do nothing with it, just like this one.

And then that poor dog. A movie like this borders on animal cruelty. Disgusting, just the music during the credits alone. Man, oh man. Soof with a dog. Fuck off.
