When a woman in a wedding dress flees the city in a stolen car, Chief Inspector Dixon learns that Count de Montaigne's gift to his bride - a valuable necklace - was stolen at his wedding. The notorious thief 'Lady Jane' is the prime suspect. At a gas station, this mysterious woman meets bon vivant Michael "Mike" Winslow and drops him off at his yacht club. Journalists assume Michael is secretly married when they find a wedding dress in the woman's suitcase. Meanwhile, at the club, Mike and the mystery woman are introduced as a married couple. The woman, who calls herself Belinda Hipplewaite, first dances with Mike, then flees again.
