The already quite gray shoemaker Schilling (Carl-Heinz Schroth) from a provincial hole suddenly has a fortune of a hundred thousand marks and happens to hear in a conversation that he has only a short time to live. He goes to Berlin to spend the money quickly and even with the help of banker Hans (Klausjürgen Wussow) he barely succeeds.
