Fourteenth Lover plot
Vi, daughter of the wealthy Mr. Marchmont, has grown tired of her thirteen suitors and decides to turn to their gardener, Richard Hardy. Richard is a handsome but exceptionally dim-witted gardener who supports his elderly mother by pruning the shrubs of wealthy people. However, he has no use for society ladies who can't cook or sew. Vi learns to cook to please him, but he is unimpressed. Her friends tell her lies about Richard. She goes to his house and forces him to keep her there all night so he can be forced to marry her. Will he agree?
