Fanfare plot

Lagerwiede, 1950s. Krijns is an unwelcome musician in the local brass band. He gets into a fight with Geursen and the curses don't stop there: 'Ugly criminal that you're here. I'll teach you a lesson." The 25-strong marching band falls straight into two hostile camps. And both gentlemen have to gain a majority in order to participate in a major competition. Krijns even gets a conductor (Albert Mol) from the big city. That will be bumblebees in the nicest possible way.

I've been looking into older films for a while now. as well as Dutch classics such as Fanfare by Bert Haanstra. I watched the movie yesterday and I have to say I really liked it. My preconception was that it would be a bit of an old long-winded movie.

However, he never bored me. It's kind of a mix of comedy, drama and of course Dutch nostalgia.

All in all I recommend this film, especially for those who are interested in the Dutch film of the past.

A classic from the northern neighbors that I had never heard of, it had to be because of the All Film series.
What a fun movie! Nicely acted and a supporting scenario that gives space to a number of special characters in the village. It's a comedy where I was able to laugh out loud several times with the (crazy) comical situations. As far as I'm concerned, the film never falls 'dead' but continues to flow nicely until the end.
The fact that I myself have the experience of being a musician in an (amateur) orchestra has certainly contributed to my viewing pleasure, because of a number of things that are still recognizable, despite the age of the film. For example, rehearsing in a café in the back room to have a pint together afterwards, the hassle with conductors (much is decisive anyway), the friendly atmosphere (which is under pressure in the film). The finale is hilarious when the audience at the competition goes completely crazy as if Elvis just performed in person
I also really enjoyed the fifties atmosphere (it all seemed a bit simpler back then or is that the magic of film?), the wonderful polder landscapes and the clever integration of nature images by Bert Haanstra. I'm going to have to watch a documentary by this man now. But that certainly doesn't seem like a punishment to me. Wonderful poster by the way.

It seems as if Don Camillo and Peppone have descended on lovely Giethoorn, but without a superior counselor and fortunately but without political intentions, although bribery politics is sometimes useful in this successful comedy of yesteryear, which is certainly still watchable and provides a bit of funny entertainment.

Hans Kaart and Bernard Droog - both featured that same year in Fons Rademakers "Village aan de Rivier" - are the stubborn opponents who perfectly fulfill their role full of inventive bullying, but the rest of the cast is also not too bad in their picturesque renditions.

Pleasant, right down to the music, although sometimes there is a false one.
