Paquita and her brother Venancio, both single, live in a small town near Madrid. Their eldest sister Ignacia, a spinster, oppresses them. One evening, Paquita overhears her sister telling someone that she wants to sell the family properties and move to Paris, leaving her brother and sister behind. Paquita and Venancio get scared and accidentally kill her.
