Martin L. Donovan is a New York boarding house owner of Irish descent who likes to bet on horse racing. He constantly interferes in the life of his beloved daughter Connie. She has a romance with the sailor Kevin O'Connor. Her father, a rather coarse and clumsy man, refuses to let his daughter marry and tries to put a stop to this.
