Double Speed plot

Speed Carr, driving from New York to Los Angeles to visit an uncle he hasn't seen in twenty years, is robbed of his car, clothes, and identification by vagrants and reaches the coast penniless, dressed in a borrowed suit. At his uncle's bank, he is refused money. Carr pawns his watch under the name Barry Cole and adopts this name, using it to arrange a job as a chauffeur for Donald McPherson, the father of Sallie McPherson, with whom he has fallen in love.
