Die Verkaufte Braut plot
In 19th century Bohemia, a coachman named Hans is in love with Marie, the mayor's daughter. But she is promised to Wenzel, the son of a rich farmer. Marie refuses to marry Wenzel. That is why a marriage mediator tries to buy Marie from Hans. Wenzel, however, tells Hans that he does not want to marry Marie because he loves the ringmaster's daughter. Hans nevertheless accepts the offer because he wants to keep the mediator out of his relationship. But Marie finds out and never wants to see Hans again.
