De Big van het Regiment plot
During the First World War, reserve lieutenant Berkhage is called to the Belgian border. A Belgian refugee child ends up with him. This child, 'the piglet', becomes the company's darling, uncovers a spy case and eventually joins Berkhage's wedding to the piano teacher Nora.
