Emery Slade, an actor, was at the top in 1932. It is now 1949 and Emery is broke and still intolerable. Producer Crossman enlists Emery's help to convince Broadway star Rosalie Brooks to star in a new film. When Emery meets Julie Clarke, his assistant's former girlfriend, he decides she should get the part.
