Homer Fitch is a shop owner in a small town. When his wife Sybil one day adopts some rather rambunctious orphans, Homer is at first hostile to this brutal invasion of his tranquility, but his paternal feelings for the boys are awakened when the children fall victim to a veritable scarlet fever epidemic.
