Flannery O'Connor is a young, committed Christian from Georgia. Writing her first novel turns out to be no sinecure. She also suffers from health problems and suffers from lupus. O'Connor passes away at the age of 39.

Biography of Flannery O'Connor [Maya Hawke], an idiosyncratic writer who wrote at a young age about the alienation from the religious, rural environment in which she grew up. She was 27 years old when she published her debut novel Wise Blood in 1952, in which the disillusioned protagonist founded a “Church Without Christ”. This challenging film uses a narrative structure similar to O'Connor's. The creative process of some of the short stories that O'Connor wrote is depicted with her mother Regina [Laura Linney] in the role of one of the protagonists. A daring, challenging film where it helps if you are familiar with O'Connor's work, or if you have seen John Huston's 1979 film adaptation of 'Wise Blood'. Ethan Hawke proves himself again as a director and Linney delivers one of her best performances.
