Five years of occupation during WWII ends in Norway. Vidkun Quisling, Prime Minister, is in prison for treason and must answer for his actions. He collaborated with the German occupiers. Can a priest help him find peace? Can the traitor with great thoughts about himself come to his senses?

The young pastoral worker Peder Olsen [Anders Danielsen Lie] is put forward by his mentor [Lasse Kolsrud] as the spiritual support for Vidkun Quisling [Gard B. Eidsvold] during a trial that will most likely result in the death penalty. Quisling is a military veteran who previously did humanitarian work under the legendary polar explorer (and Norwegian folk hero) Fridtjof Nansen, but when he proclaimed himself head of government after the German invasion of Norway in April 1940, he was appointed Prime Minister by Josef Goebbels in February 1942. Quisling is a complex, fascinating character, but anyone who thinks that Poppe is trying to usurp Der Untergang will be disappointed. The screenplay remains faithful to the book that Peder Olsen wrote about his experiences. It is more about the conscience of a pastoral worker than about a portrait of a notorious traitor who was executed on October 24, 1949 (as the title suggests). Eidsvol and Carlehed (as his fanatical, loyal wife) are great and deserved more attention. Lie is saddled with a dull, thankless role in this bizarrely edited disappointment
