"Have a blast."

The film is set in the futuristic city of Metro City, where Astro Boy (Freddie Highmore) is designed by a brilliant scientist, who designed the robot with super powers after the death of his son. Astro Boy was therefore designed in his likeness. However, because the robot cannot prevent his spiritual father from forgetting the grief of his deceased son, Astro Boy runs away. After a dangerous journey, he will have to return to save the world, which is being attacked by aliens, from destruction.

I personally thought it was a fun animated film to watch. It was a bit like Monsters inc but I like that movie much better. However, this film also looks very good. But I think the story is more aimed at older children because my five-year-old daughter didn't understand a word of it. She didn't understand that the robot wasn't the boy which made her miss an important part of the story. Other than that, the story wasn't that exciting and the movie isn't that special. It's missing something. Some tension and some more developed characters perhaps. But to the eye, the film is pleasant to watch.

Bwa, nice animation and maintained story. But not really original. I think they have stayed close to the original (I only know by name) so that everything is rather standard and not very daring. This film will be appreciated in America, but I found it rather bland actually.

wow.

Could have expected it with Bowers at the helm, of course, but still. Saw some of the original once and it was quite charming. Not as fun as a Dr Slump, but fun enough not to stare at the ceiling with great interest after 5 minutes.

This American adaptation is especially very American. Character design is dramatic, even the robots don't look nice at all. The voice work is also unheard of. Cage and Sutherland are just way too recognizable, so their characters never come to life.

The story is clumsy, the dialogue very childish and flat. It may all be aimed at younger viewers, but it feels like you're watching a bad TV series. Visually, there is also nothing to see at all. After 20 minutes I had seen it, the average playing time of an episode. But then it takes 90+ minutes and it becomes a real torture.

Dramatic adaptation of this, how this got to its relatively high score is a mystery to me.

0.5*
