Alice Solves the Puzzle plot

Alice is on the beach with her cat, trying to solve a crossword puzzle. Then Woodleg Pete, a ruthless collector of rare crosswords, appears, and discovers that Alice has a copy that is missing from his collection. When he tries to steal the puzzle, he fails to take into account Alice's alert and determined cat.
