"RENFREW SOLVES THE MILLION DOLLAR MURDERS!"

Joan Manning is unaware that her business partner George Weathers, with whom she operates a trading post, is part of a gang of counterfeiters. When the miner brings Jim Smithers his gold dust, Weathers pays him out in counterfeit money. Bill Smithers, Jim's drunken brother, tells Weathers at the trading post that Jim is leaving the region for good. Weathers sends Hawks out to kill Jim and take the counterfeit money from him. RCMP Sergeant Renfrew and his Corporal Kelly find Jim's dead body and investigate. Both then come across the dead body of Bill Smithers. They find a note with Bill's corpse, proving suicide as the cause of death. Renfrew, however, does not trust either cause of death.
