Lydia Bailey plot
"Lydia Bailey ... is Haiti, Voodoo and Passion !"
Albron Hamlin, a young lawyer from Boston, travels to Haiti in 1802 to meet Lydia Bailey. Hamlin has been instructed by her to register her estate. The island has been torn apart by the war between the French and black president Toussaing L'Overture. Hamlin meets Lydia and, against the backdrop of rebellion and war, they are drawn to each other and try to help the island's inhabitants against the French.
