Jericó plot
Dominican friar Santiago travels with the Spanish cruel conquistadors to South America. He has to teach the Indians in the Caribbean to the Christian faith, while the Spanish conquerors take possession of their land and riches. Santiago sees the injustice done to the Indians and finds that none of them come to mass. He becomes acquainted with the Native Americans and becomes one of them. Santiago marries, the couple has a child, but he comes into conflict with his Indians. He is 'saved' by the Spaniards led by Gazcuña and falls into the hands of the Inquisition for heresy. In reality, Gazcuña wants to get rid of him, because he knows that Santiago is aware that he has stolen a gold treasure, which he wants to keep hidden from the crown.
