Sailors Jakob Therbecke, Robert Herrick and Huish are in charge of a ship with smallpox patients on board. Due to a severe storm, they wash up on the beach of Tehua, a remote island in the Pacific Ocean. Tehua is led by the ruthless and religious zealot Attwater, who has proclaimed himself a god. The three sailors wait for an opportunity to steal Attwater's collection of pearls and then leave the island as quickly as possible.
