Berlinger plot

Lukas (Martin Benrath) escapes conscription at the start of World War II because he is a scientist who can be of use to the Nazis. He just doesn't want to be put in their shoes and flees from Germany, hot on his heels by Johannes (Peter Ehrlich), once his best friend. When Lukas's wife is captured by the Gestapo and commits suicide, their friendship turns to enmity for good.
