Young Billy Freeman leads a hard life in poverty, caused by his father's alcohol abuse. Billy's dog Pal is summoned by a judge to join the Dogs for Defense to pay for a theft. Though initially difficult for Billy and Pal, the dog proves to be a quick learner and an excellent army dog. Pal has to guard a factory that has been sabotaged by the Germans. Now it's up to Pal and Billy to save the factory where his father works.
