Vivandière plot
"No shield. No weapon. No choice."
At the height of the Civil War, a fifteen-year-old girl volunteers to become a battlefield nurse - a vivandière - with the Confederate Army, sending her straight to the front lines. She soon discovers that there are more horrors than she sees on the battlefield. For example, there are guerrillas who kill and loot wounded soldiers. There are also officers of her own regiment, whose cold-blooded war calculations make every promise they offer treacherous and often deadly. But she also finds an unlikely friend and ally - a fellow Union army vivandière.
