The Last Express plot
Underworld boss Frank Hoefle sees evidence against him stolen by his accomplice, Pinky, from District Attorney Meredith's office. However, the evidence is then stolen from Pinky, and the thief demands a $300,000 ransom for its return to Hoefle. The latter then hires private detective Duncan MacLain and 'Spud' Savage to fulfill the demands of the ransom note and leave the money in a locker at a subway station.
