Telephone technicians Red Rickard and Shorty Bowman travel to Riverdale for an emergency job and meet the attractive operators Helen Molloy and Dottie Stengal, who initially balk at the prospect. When Helen is fired by her boss due to a misunderstanding, she finds herself without a job. However, she comes to the rescue unsolicited when the local dam bursts after weeks of heavy rainfall, risking her own life to warn as many residents as possible by phone about the rapidly rising water.
