Surviving the Wild plot
After the untimely death of his grandfather, Gus, thirteen-year-old Shaun sets out on a long journey into the wilderness to scatter his grandfather's ashes from a remote mountaintop. His parents, who are in the middle of a messy divorce, don't want that. Shaun therefore decides to steal the ashes and flees with his dog. He is determined to fulfill his grandfather's last wish. During the treacherous journey, Shaun and his dog are joined by the ghost of Gus, who helps them on their journey.
