Mayfair plot
Computer genius and prodigal son Zaid is on a spiritual discovery. As an international aid worker, he lives as far away as possible from his father, Aziz Randera, a successful import-exporter, money launderer and blackmailer. When Zaid is discharged from a refugee camp for evading the rules to actually do something good, he has long since returned to Mayfair, an Indian Muslim enclave in Johannesburg. Everything has changed there: the old quarter is full of immigrants with conflicting habits. His father has a hard time following a deal with ruthless Somalis. Young Turks smell blood and harass the family business. Zaid stays out of it until Ameena, his first love, and Faiza, his little sister, are kidnapped after failing to leave money behind to solve the Somali deal. Zaid fights to be a good man in a bad world, but the world fights back.
