Johanne is a marine biologist conducting research at a fish farm in Vangsnes, a rural fjord community, when she discovers several strange occurrences. After the brutal deaths of two local teenagers, all signs point to the deep fjord; could there be more to the depths than meets the eye? At the bottom of Norway’s deepest fjord lies a mythical monster as tall as a mountain, with countless arms ready to crush and devour anything it can get its hands on.

Not good, not even as a pastime.. admittedly, with a small budget they did manage to create a decent build-up, and where it remains based on suggestion it’s okay, but towards the end it becomes a mess and the scenes where the kraken is on screen are rather laughable a kraken visible in its entirety above the water surface, come on! Any marine biologist would switch off immediately. No, unfortunately.

A decent horror thriller, but nothing more than that. The story is delightful nonsense, but that is permissible in this genre. The execution is mixed. The first hour is quite strong. It follows familiar paths, yet the tension is built up very well. The Jaws-like atmosphere is established perfectly. However, the second part, when the danger is unraveled, is significantly weaker. Illogical choices and weird, sometimes laughable scenes really drag the film down. Khorami's constant look of surprise doesn't help make this ending take anything remotely seriously either. Visually, the film is not disappointing despite the limited resources. 3.0
