In the early eighteenth century, foreign domination meant dark times for the Hutsuls of the Carpathians. The two Dovbush brothers become Opryshkos (mountain bandits). Ukrainian blockbuster that can finally be seen after some delay (war). In the feudal 18th century, the Poles were the bad guys who terrorized the population. Peasant uprisings and highway robbery were commonplace in the Carpathians. Many films have already been made about Janosik, the Slovak Robin Hood. Oleksa Dovbush had to make do with the 1959 Soviet film.

And it was worth the wait. Atmospheric film with an exciting denouement and fantastic fight scenes in a beautiful landscape. Everyone speaks their own language without annoying Russian voice-over or Hollywood English.

Soon also the film adaptation of Tadeusz 'Kos' Kosciuszko. In cinemas from February 2024.
