Die Standarte plot

A young Austrian cadet officer becomes wiser towards the end of the First World War and has few illusions. He receives the battle flag from the hands of a dying comrade. He bravely tries to honor the symbol. It is the symbol of the Double Eagle Monarchy. His journey takes him to the Danube River through a love affair. There he becomes involved in the execution of an entire regiment that rises up against their German-speaking officers.
