Lashana Lynch has confirmed that she was contracted to just one Bond movie, No Time to Die.
In the latest Bond film, Lynch played Nomi, an MI6 agent assigned to the 007 codename after Daniel Craig's James Bond retired. Eventually, as Bond returns, the pair team up to defeat the villainous Lyutsifer Safin.
At the conclusion of No Time to Die, Bond actually dies which is the first time that has ever happened in the history of the franchise, that will be rebooted with the next movie.
A new Bond will be cast, and it seems that there will be a completely clean slate with regard to the other cast, too.
"Do you think people really want that? Do you think people are ready for that?" Lynch told Entertainment Weekly when asked about a potential female Bond.
"I signed up for one movie. I did one, I literally don't know anything about the next one. I've not had a conversation. So yeah... it's in their hands. It's in the franchise's hands."
The favourites to replace Daniel Craig are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, James Norton, Damson Idris and Tom Hardy.
A female Bond?
Lynch believes that the franchise would continue to be successful no matter the gender or ethnicity of the lead character.
"With Bond, it could be a man or woman," she insisted.
"They could be white, black, Asian, mixed race. They could be young or old. At the end of the day, even if a two-year-old was playing Bond, everyone would flock to the cinema to see what this two-year-old’s gonna do, no?"
