Nice plot. Put three hot and free-spirited ladies in a farm in the middle of an area populated by the ascetic religious community of the Hittites and you have the dolls dancing. A great setting in this horror film that mainly relies on atmosphere and some intense scenes.

Wes Craven directs and keeps the violent scenes here less brutal and bloody than in later work. Yet they impress with good timing and an oppressive build-up to the climax. There are some nicely disturbing scenes in the movie.

Something is done with the fine setting and the obvious conflict, but not enough. The negativity that naturally exists between the old-fashioned religious fanatics and the three modernist female characters is underused. Only occasionally does the horror and incomprehension of those diabolical women who display so much immorality come to the fore in a sermon or in a dismissive visit to the neighbours. Such scenes cause tension and unrest. But yes, then little or nothing follows after such an outburst. And that's a pity. It is a pity that those moments are not expanded into a threat that can be found and felt in every nook and cranny of the film. The scenes are just too loosely and secludedly woven into the story for that to happen

Wes Craven actually soon agrees with those Hittites and their horror and prefers to focus prominently on the three fun leading roles. And that works well. Even without interference from the religious, the ladies are quickly stripped, panic over nothing and (not unimportantly) easily get rid of annoying clothing.

Some memorable scenes emerge from the fear and panic. Enough to enjoy and shiver. A wonderful 80's movie.

Oh yeah. Sharon Stone and Ernest Borgnine also participate. Both unimpressive.

Wes Craven flop including Razzie for Ernest Borgnine, but time is mild, it's actually a strong movie. No full-out horror all the time, but the horror scenes are nicely subtly placed in the film, including the scene that Craven did again later in A Nightmare on Elm Street. You can also just mix horror with good drama. Apparently the critics thought differently in the early 1980s. A young Sharon Stone is also in it and that man with the very high forehead from The Hills Have Eyes.

Vague film by Craven. Sometimes his movies are great, but this one is a flop as far as I'm concerned. A slasher with some supernatural elements, which takes place in the countryside and in the vicinity of a fanatical religious community, the Hittites. They believe in the presence of an incubus, which leads the believers astray.

I didn't like it much. First half quite boring even and not well told. With a very young Sharon Stone in her first lead. The bath scene was one of the better scenes, and the lovemaking scene in the car after which a black-clad figure kills the man with a knife immediately reminded me of Scream. Finally, there is another surprise at the end. With some indulgence a 2.5*
