Qivitoq plot
Young teacher Eva Nygaard travels from Denmark to Greenland to surprise her fiancé Erik Halsøe, only to discover that he is now getting married to a nurse. Disappointed, she goes to a small fishing village, where she meets the Danish trader Jens. Jens wants to convince the local Greenlander Pavia to go fishing for his company, but Pavia fears that this will upset Qivitoq's spirit.

A truly beautiful film. I was breathless watching the stunning scenery, the crumbling ice walls, the Greenlandic people in their often magnificent clothing, all in beautiful, natural colors and razor-sharp images. It's incredible that they could already make that in the mid-1950s. Baggerman sums it up well. It's just a shame that the story is so weak and the acting is rather stiff and unnatural. But then again, that's the 1950s. I wondered how much of Greenland's beautiful nature still remains.
