Ironclad: Battle for Blood plot

It is the year 1216, exactly one year after the battle of Rochester Castle, when a new enemy threatens English life. A group of Celtic Raiders steal the cattle and kill anyone who stands in their way. After Hubert's father is killed by these Raiders, he is determined to defeat them once and for all. He wants to enlist the help of his cousin Guy, a hero from Rochester castle. Guy is no longer the naive idealist but a hardened swordsman. Hubert finds him in a brothel, drunk and disillusioned, and only willing to fight in exchange for money.

Hard to imagine that this film was made by the director of the first Ironclad. Where that film managed to disguise its banal premise with a strong cast and solidly shot action, this looks like the amateurish botch of someone who is new to the film. Predictable plot, bad camera work, overly exaggerated music and above all hopelessly little fleshing out of the story and characters. Incidentally, the film has little to do with its predecessor: it is indeed hinted that the 'main character' is a survivor of the Rochester siege, but the previous film showed us coming out of the battle alive and this Guy de Lusignan (I will wisely keep quiet about the use of that name) was clearly not among them. No wonder he doesn't say a word about it; probably just a con man. Your hero for this adventure, ladies and gentlemen!

I found this second part a lot better than the first part. The story appealed to me more and I especially liked the characters a lot better. The bloodshed was pretty much the same as in the previous film but with this one I really sat on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. As far as I'm concerned this film is a real must see! But from what I read I'm the only one here. (you guys don't have good taste haha)

In 1221, Gilbert De Vesci [David Rintoul] is seriously wounded while defending his castle from Scottish marauders who are targeting English castles in the borderlands. De Vesci holds out, but the Scottish leader [Predrag Bjelac] vows revenge for the death of his son [Ljubomir Bulajic]. So De Vesci orders his son Hubert [Tom Rhys Harries] to track down his nephew (and mercenary) Guy De Lisagu [Tom Austen] and enlist his help in defending the castle. Also joining Hubert are Guy's good friend Berenger [David Caves], executioner Pierrepoint [Andy Beckwith] and serial killer "Crazy" Mary [Twinnie Lee Moore]. But can these opportunists (who are paid for their help) be trusted? Unintentionally, it is remarkably reminiscent of Monty Python And The Holy Grail, probably because it also had to be made on a shoestring. Everyone is overacting merrily on loop and English belongs to the category of incompetent filmmakers who believe that violently shaky camerawork and lightning-fast cuts are the equivalent of exciting action.
