Extraterrestrial plot

"They do not come in peace."

A group of school friends head to a secluded cabin in the woods for a weekend of partying. At night they suddenly see a strange fireball falling from the sky. They drive to the site and discover the wreckage of a crashed plane and a set of ominous footprints leading from the plane into the woods. When attacked from all angles by unwanted, vengeful visitors, they hide in the hut, barricade windows and doors and try to survive the night.

Holy shit dude, that's an alien.

I am in favor of horror films that focus on aliens. Dark Skies is still fresh in our minds. After all those ghosts, Blumhouse also proved that Aliens can do just fine. Well... We do have the Alien series, but that is more action-oriented. Films where these strange match-legged water-headed men cause madness and craziness... Dark Skies proved it.

The atmosphere in this film is still quite well composed, although the execution could have been a little better and more subtle. It could also have stayed more within Canadian borders instead of taking place in America with the typical American elements; read, a group of overacting youth cast (although I still thought that antisocial Seth was a nice phenomenon), who have to scream and shout exaggeratedly and convincingly enough when something happens. That veteran, on the other hand, makes up for things, as does that Sherrif... a bit of action... the dark atmosphere, that stereotypical-looking Alien... and finally those supernatural forces that play a role.

And then the ending that also goes in different directions. Very weird.

Not bad... but it could have been more convincing.

3.0*

Because of the participation of actress Brittany Allen, who I recently also saw in the Drama / Horror film "It Stains the Sands Red (2016)" , I watched this Horror / Science Fiction film. Although it is certainly not a high-quality or super exciting film, I did enjoy it and the story managed to keep me reasonably interested. The pace is also quite high and there is more than enough happening and there is also quite a bit of action (sometimes even a bit hard and rough, including with the anal probe ). I thought the ending was quite nice and it's certainly not a happy ending, though !

Director Colin Minihan was very young when he started this production, but he brings a nice fresh tone that a film like Extraterrestrial could definitely use. To get to the better sequences you just have to get through a relatively uninteresting first half hour, in which the sentiment doesn't really work and the humor is annoying. Once the puppets are dancing, however, as a viewer you are guaranteed a good hour of entertainment with beautiful effects and a lot of pace. Especially the aggressive editing, the attention to colorful environments and the convincing visual embellishment complete a whole like this. The third act in particular really convinced me, even though its duration is not long. It is nice that Minihan executes the well-known horror and science fiction elements well enough and also adds something quirky, but nevertheless, some work could have been done on building up the tension. The average doesn't agree with me, but I had a great time.
