Quite a weak showing. Attempt at something like a film noir but in a futuristic setting, being a dilapidated London (taster of Brexit?), but due to a harrowing lack of cohesion in the story it doesn't work for a meter. Heard is unmistakably a femme fatale here, surrounded and loved by three very different gentlemen. Director Cullen plays with his actors and with the viewer, but at the end is unable to find an exit in his self-created maze. Many well-known actors, including minor supporting roles (from Johnny Depp to Jason Isaacs, among others) who have considerably overestimated the talent of the creators of this London Fields, otherwise it cannot be explained why they let themselves be ensnared for this dragon. Amber's beauty is played as the main asset, but it's nowhere near enough, and is almost single-handedly outdone by the once-promising Sturgess in an insanely underplayed role that has to be seen to be believed. Thornton, understandably, looks very tired and so will anyone who can last the two hours that this takes. To become depressed.

Legally troubled film adaptation of the complex bestseller of the same name was made when Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were still happy together, but was released two years after their marriage had come to an end. Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of a writer who is completely absorbed in the story he is writing. It's a dark crime drama with a convincing Amber Heard as the sexy femme fatale who immediately announces that she's met the person who's about to kill her. She just doesn't know who that is yet. Nice sets and great camera work are plus points, but the story is often confusing and Jim Sturgess is abysmal as a despicable darts player with lousy throwing technique who plays a part in it all. Johnny Depp, whose name does not appear in the credits, plays his big competitor Chick Purchase. Darts fans will recognize Bobby George [as referee] and Andy Fordham [as spectator] at the darts final, in which a smirking Depp makes an incredibly stupid counting error in his second turn. Darters know why. Movie buffs be warned.

Foreign.

Moderately developed film with film noir traits. The movie is slow, which is nice, and there are a few colorful types walking around. Only the film seems rudderless. The plot wobbles in all directions and after a while it is quite disappointing. Moreover, Amber Heard is a mockery as a femme fatale. In my opinion, it can be a bit more than looking around arrogantly with a clean face. The film would have been shelved for a long time due to legal concerns. Good movies rarely seem to have that kind of problem.
