"When Amadeo of Savoy wanted to modernize Spain"
Historical film about the brief reign of Amadeo of Savoy, a Turin prince who was king of Spain for two years. His mainstay, the mighty General Prim, was murdered before Amadeo had settled in and nobody looked after him; Spain in 1871 was also plagued by administrative and financial crises. The king finds a way out of his loneliness and frustrations by a kind of flight inwards. Outside the palace it is not safe, inside the walls Amadeo and his servants indulge in playful adventures, in which it is all about love and pleasure, food and drink, beauty and melancholy.
