"Best Soviet Film Since 'Girl from Leningrad'"
The Soviet Union is on the brink of winter war with Finland. For the young Mashenka, life is work. During the day she works as a telegraph operator, processing an endless stream of requests from demanding customers. In the evenings she is studying alone at home, hoping for a better future. As she listens to the romantic adventures of her colleagues Klava and Vera, she wishes that one day it would be her turn: for a man to have a crush on her.
