Christmas for a Dollar plot

It is the time of the Great Depression and the Kamp family is struggling to make ends meet, especially after the death of Mrs. Kamp. Little Ruthie Kamp expects yet another Christmas without gifts and festivities as her mother has passed away and her father is overwhelmed with doctor's bills due to her brother having polio. But when her father comes home with a dollar to buy each other special gifts, the Kamps discover that you can have a nice Christmas even without money.
