Duff video.

Only watched because of the genre and DeHaan. Actor that I personally think highly of. As far as I'm concerned, she hasn't played the wrong role yet, but she regularly chooses the wrong films. In this one he comes into his own as a character, but the film surrounding it does not.

In any case, I didn't find Plaza very funny. She doesn't really like these kinds of roles either. She has no control over those American comedy traits at all. In Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates she also missed the mark. Reilly was fun, but co-star Shannon was truly insufferable.

There is actually little to experience in terms of horror. I also think it's only classified as horror because it has a few zombies running around in it. But the layout of these zombies is often too simple. Just some gray makeup that is poured over it. It feels a bit too easy.

The film also lacks some coarse and hard horror. It all remains a bit tame, except for Plaza's death. But that was shown from a distance. In terms of comedy, the best parts of Reilly and DeHaan come in some dry dialogue, but otherwise it all feels forced and too subtle. The alternation between more subtle humor and brutal American humor does not alternate very well either.

Eventually there is some momentum in the last 25 minutes and DeHaan and Reilly provide some dry humor in between. Then I have actually named just about everything. Humor wasn't my thing at all. A bit too TV-like in my opinion and the balance with humor is never really found unfortunately.

Zach [Dane DeHaan] attends the wake of his ex-girlfriend Beth [Aubrey Plaza], who died from a snakebite. Less than a day later, he discovers that Beth is still very much alive and begs her parents [John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon] to help him keep Beth's miraculous resurrection a secret from the outside world. However, Beth herself has no idea what happened and believes that she and Zach are still in a relationship. The screenplay revolves around one nice joke and soon you don't know which way to go. DeHaan also has difficulty with the darkly comic dialogues, but Plaza is at times hilarious as the gradually declining Beth.

A zombie movie with Aubrey Plaza, how could that go wrong.

Well, so. Although there are a few small moments, it doesn't really get anywhere fun. Or exciting. Or impressive. Or anything, really. Kendrick and John C. cannot save this mess either. The trailer is more fun than the movie, and the trailer is the best moment.

Too bad, there could have been more with this crew. You would think.
