Obsession plot

"Hidden love! Hidden hate! Hidden fear!"

When London psychiatrist Clive Riordan notices that his wife is cheating on him, he decides to kidnap her boyfriend, Bill Kronin. To the outside world it looks like he has disappeared without a trace, but Riordan keeps him alive in an underground chamber until the case is forgotten. Problems arise, however, when his wife's dog continues to roam around the entrance of the room.

Robert Newton plays Clive, a man who thinks he can avenge his much younger wife's [Ellie Gray] affair with Bill [Phil Brown] with surprisingly subdued effectiveness. He sets his ingenious plan in motion—using a secret room in the house—and doesn't expect Scotland Yard's Superintendent Finsbury [Naunton Wayne] to stand in his way.

The large amount of dialogue sometimes slows the film's pace a bit, but the acting is excellent, especially when the sardonic Newton and the equally stiff and stubborn Wayne cross swords 'like gentlemen'.
