A really fun film with truly sublime deadpan humor. I thoroughly enjoyed the awkward situational humor, the play on cheap off-season elements, the very awkward yet touching communication between Hector and Jazmin, and Paloma's struggle with it. Even beyond the joke executions, the uneasy atmosphere also creates plenty of smiles. Eimbcke subtly manages to inject the narrative with character development and enough momentum. Very enjoyable.

A mother spends her vacation at a hotel with a pool with her fifteen-year-old son. There, the son meets a girl his own age for the first time. This is a rather minimal film. So little happens, and the "vacation" is so dull, that it's actually quite enjoyable. And yet, the film ultimately has a nice structure. It's all done very subtly, but it also feels very real and honest. I quite enjoyed this short film. It just goes to show that you can create something truly beautiful with a simple, low-budget film. Considering the enormous budgets spent on an average Hollywood film, this is almost the opposite. But with a better result than the average cliché Hollywood film. Although a film like this probably won't attract a large audience.
