L'Image Manquante plot
A missing photo has been sought for many years: a photo taken between 1975 and 1979 by the Khmer Rouge when they ruled Cambodia. By itself, the photo cannot provide evidence of mass murder, but it does provide a thought-provoking image, prompting us to meditate and record history. Archives and old newspapers in the rural villages of Cambodia were searched. Today it appears that the photo has disappeared. Actually, there turned out to be no photo at all, so the photo was created. The documentary does not show the photo nor the quest for a unique image, but the image of a quest: the quest that makes cinema possible.
