Mediocre film noir that is ruined by the unnecessary lame humor, personally I think Gloria Grahame is much more beautiful as Jane Russell, who I always thought had an ugly head, but the body is beautiful again. Also excellent roles from William Bendix and Robert Mitchum.

Agree with Mochizuki Rokuro (thanks to whom I was able to see this film). Macao is simply a solid, well-made film noir with a nice pace, a light, tropical atmosphere and entertaining performances from the cast. Robert Mitchum is in any case one of the few actors who hardly has to do anything to be entertained and Gloria Grahame is always a plus, although she is used to a limited extent here (she was also angry with producer Howard Hughes who forced her to play a thankless supporting role in this film to play, while she had been offered a role in A Place in the Sun).

This is the first film I've seen by Von Sternberg, but he only directed a third of it. So I have no idea if this is very representative of his style, but probably not. By the way, I don't recognize Nicholas Ray's hand in it either. This is quite a different atmosphere.

3*

nice noir that is very enjoyable due to its short running time, Mitchum and Russell are a couple again, or should I say for the first time because the film I recently saw was from 55.

They are a good match as a couple, the story is fine and we are a bit misled as to who is who, but I suspected that before.
